Go To Lashes Home

Seasonal influences on lashes.

After having lash extensions, you will likely become acutely aware of the growth, hold and shed process of your lashes
and you may soon discover that the seasons impact your lashes – sometimes dramatically.

There is phenomena called “Autumn Shed” where some clients will lose a shocking amount of their natural lashes (and extensions) to shedding.
What’s happening?

Shedding of body hair and lashes in autumn (late autumn to early winter in Arizona) is a natural process.
Hair (and lashes) protect us from the sun.  During the summer most people experience the highest level of
hair in the “telogen” resting or holding state. The mature hair is doing its job, protecting us from the strong summer light.
It remains in the resting state until it is time to shed off (fall/winter) and the follicle prepares for the next cycle.
Researchers found that women had the highest proportion of resting hairs in July.

With the telogen state in most of them ending around 100 days later, from October onwards.
This means, Autumn Shed and worried clients.

Not everyone experiences a shocking loss of eyelashes during this transition, but it does happen. It is good to know
and be prepared for this possibility because, frankly, it can be quite an emotional experience to see your lovely lashes dropping off.
If you discover you are a client that experiences Autumn Shed, fill appointments can be moved up a week, and lighter lashes can be
used to get past this difficult period which lasts about 3 -4 weeks.
